Mindanao Tour Part 2; Camiguin Island.

Part 2 of our Mindanao Trip.

I’m finally here.at Camiguin Island!

Love, love, love the ride going to Camiguin. The cool breeze blowing my face with a hint of salty smell in the air. A perfect view of the mountains and islands.

The weather is very pretty. I can’t wait to go for a swim!

I arrived at the Camiguin port around 1:00 pm already. It took me almost 2 hours to get to the island. Phew!!!

I rode the “Motorela” going to the resort. The Motorela looks like this

So after buying souvenirs and take home products, Iwent back to the resort and was supposed to drink vodka and walk along the beach when all of a sudden, at around 7 or 8 in the evening…..the electricity went off!!!!

I was so lucky I am able to find a place to buy food and the resort I stayed unfortunately, doesn’t have a generator.  So, I ended up eating with just the rechargeable lamp. I also decided not to drink and just rest so that I can wake up the next morning fully recharged and swim at the White Island.

Let me tell you this, around 10 in the evening while I was sleeping,  I felt the bed move. I woke up with a start and realized that there’s an earthquake!!!

The scary part of it is that the resort is super near the shoreline.

Thankfully, there’s no tsunami alert in the area. But unfortunately, the next morning, there’s still no electricity and they prohibited tourists in going to the White Island because of high tide and it’s raining. The locals told me that they haven’t had rain for quite some time.

Another bad luck.

I still stayed positive though and just went to some other tourist spots like the Old Church and the Sunken Cemetery. Going to the Old church is quite a long way from the resort as well. though it only took me 15 minutes.

Old Catarman Church Ruins

The church of the Old Catarman town was destroyed and partially submerged by volcanic debris during the eruption and formation of Mt. Vulcan from 1871 to 1875. Also known as Gui-ob Church, only the ruins of the church and bell tower remain of the old town. An unsightly modern white lighthouse was recently erected close to the bell tower.-Wikipedia.

After the Old Church Ruins, I  went to the Sunken Cemetery.

During the volcanic birth of Mt. Vulcan that lasted from 1871 to about 1875, some areas in the town of Bonbon subsided, sinking the cemetery of the town to below sea level. The place is commemorated by a huge cross erected in 1982.- Wikipedia

Those are just the tourist attractions I went to. I know, it’s totally boring but it became memorable because of the mishaps I experienced while I’m there.  In fact, another bad luck happened while I was leaving the island. The ferry had some machine trouble that while we are in the middle of the sea water, the ferry stopped and the crew told us that there is a leak somewhere on the lower deck. So, imagine the horror of it. Just thinking that our boat will sink caused me to shiver and panic. Luckily, they were able to navigate the boat back to the port and we were docked safely and were transferred to another ferry.

So much for my beach trip. Still, it was a totally memorable experience.

Wait for part 3 of my Mindanao trip. I’m enjoying this whole vacation thing. I am not your usual traveler because traveling is expensive and it takes a lot of planning. I only travel through my imagination. Besides, it’s free.
